His movements after he left Chichester are not well documented, but circumstantial evidence suggests that for most of this decade (the 1740s) he was primarily an itinerant lecturer, based initially at Reading and later at Bath. His literary output during this period was, in comparison with the eight books and one tract produced in six years at Chichester, relatively sparse; he published nothing at all in the years 1741, 1744, and 1745, only one book in each of the years 1742 and 1743, two tracts in 1746, and a revised and enlarged version of his 1743 book in 1747.
